AI, billions and the race to go public
I was invited back on to BBC News World Business Report to discuss Trump’s decision to axe a planned executive order on AI Regulation, as well as the Spotify x Universal Music deal allowing subscribers to use AI tools to voice clone their favourite musicians.
Comments on Trump’s decision to shelve AI Executive Order (for now) — President Trump decided against signing a planned executive order on AI regulation today, a move being closely watched by technology companies and investors. “I didn’t like certain aspects of it, I postponed it,” Trump said in the Oval Office. “We’re leading China, we’re leading everybody, and I don’t want to do anything that’s gonna get in the way of that lead.” Trump’s postponing of the order was a victory for tech executives who opposed the AI regulation and spent millions lobbying against it.
Comments on the Spotify x Universal Deal —Universal Music Group and Spotify have signed a new agreement around AI-generated music — what Spotify’s press announcement calls a “landmark licensing agreements for fan-made covers and remixes.” This will allow subscribers to use AI to create covers and remixes that imitate artists’ voices and styles — raising fresh questions about ownership, consent and how musicians should be compensated in the age of AI.
