Artificial Intelligence
Protecting identity, creativity, and human agency
I’ve been working on the legal implications of AI since 2019 — three years before ChatGPT was released. Today, I focus on how AI reshapes the boundaries of creativity, identity, and control.
I advise performers, artists, producers, industry bodies, and tech companies on how to handle the uncertainty that comes with AI.
I’m often asked to explain whether - and if so, how - genAI content can be used for a particular prodution or project. But just as often, I help people proctect themselves (and their work) from the risks and complications that come with AI.
My work is about reframing legal tools to reflect the reality of AI in creative and media spaces, so people can adapt without losing sight of what really matters to them.
When it comes to AI, the laws and regulations regarding things like copyright, consent, and data protection are obviously important. But it’s just as important to understand the bigger picture, too. That’s why my advice always incorporates the following perspectives, too:
Platform - the AI tool’s business model, T&Cs, market reputation, and approach to liability
Operational - how AI will actually impact a client, their work, and their relationships
Reputational - the way partners, collaborators, audiences and customers will react
Social & Ethical - issues like algorithmic bias, transparency, and the climate crisis
