Contract Snapshot

A free 30-minute consultation with an experienced media lawyer to help individuals in the creative industries and performing arts understand the essentials of their contract.

the inspiration

My journey into media and entertainment law was inspired by my love of the creative and performing arts. As an experienced lawyer specialising in contracts and business affairs, I enjoy guiding clients through the process of bringing their creative visions to life. However, there's also a troubling reality.

Many talented creatives and performers enter contracts without fully understanding the implications of what they’re signing.

This concern took on a new dimension in 2018 when I discovered the emerging world of generative AI (GenAI) and in particular, deepfakes. The idea that someone’s likeness or work could be replicated and potentially misused underscored a broader issue — that many people sign contracts that seem like exciting opportunities, only to later find themselves bound by terms that negatively impact their creative control, earning potential, or even their personal brand and identity.

Part of the problem is access to legal advice.

People often think lawyers are too expensive, out of touch, or simply don’t understand the nuances of the creative industries. This leaves many without the crucial support they need when navigating their agreements.

That’s why I created Contract Snapshot.

This free service is designed to give creatives and performers a clear, concise review of a contract or business deal. My goal is to provide an initial sense check without the legal jargon getting in the way, so you can make informed decisions about your next steps.

01 / Why

Why might you need a Contract Snapshot?

Contracts frequently contain complex legal jargon with critical provisions tucked away in the fine print. This can lead to signing agreements without fully understanding how certain terms might impact their creative control, financial entitlement, or personal brand. If these details are overlooked, this can cause significant headaches later on — whether that’s being locked into restrictive relationships, losing control over your intellectual property, or facing unexpected financial consequences.

02 / What

What does the Contract Snapshot cover?

During your 30-minute Contract Snapshot session, I’ll guide you through the important points of your contract, helping you spot potential red flags and understand how certain terms could impact your creative control, financial earnings, or future opportunities. We’ll take a pragmatic approach to focus on key details that matter most to your specific situation. My goal is to empower you to make informed decisions: by the end of our conversation, I hope you’ll have a clearer picture of what your contract entails and how you'd like to proceed.

03 / Who

Who is Contract Snapshot for?

Contract Snapshot is designed for individuals in the creative and media industries who are entering into contracts on their own, often without the resources of an agency or management team. It’s particularly suited for actors, musicians, writers, visual artists, and self-employed creators who want help understanding the key terms of their agreements. Examples of agreements I routinely advise on include licensing agreements, talent contracts, publishing deals, and brand partnerships, to name just a few.
